Taking part

If you choose to take part in the SoundMind project, you will be invited for an in-person research session at our centre in King's College London, and follow these simple steps:

Hearing test at home

We will ask you to follow a simple online hearing test such as this one at home before you come in. You don't need to have perfect hearing to take part!

2

Cognitive wellbeing

& EEG set-up

First, we will go through a brief cognitive wellbeing assessment with you. For the electroencephalography (EEG) recording, we will need to fit a cap, like the one pictured here, to your head. The electrodes attached to the cap allow us to pick up electrical signals from your brain. We will need to apply some gel to the scalp to help conduct this signal.

Computer tasks

Once you're all set up, we will ask you to complete some short computerised tasks as you listen to our specially designed sounds. We will measure your brain activity throughout this time.

4

Finished!

When the tasks are complete, you may choose to wash any remaining gel out of your hair using our showers on site. We will provide everything you need - shampoo, conditioner, towels, and a hair dryer - and can assist if needed. We will then offer you a shopping voucher to thank you for your time.
